**Ask for a chart from a spreadsheet without sending the file to a cloud model.** The pictured workflow is the creator’s screenshot of **Hob**, a free desktop assistant from Christian and the Frigade team.

Hob selects an open-weight model for the computer, works with local files, and can run Python for tasks such as data analysis and document conversion. Its documentation describes approvals before folder changes, undo and sandboxed code execution.

**Local inference does not make every feature offline:** model downloads, web access, package installation and connectors can use the network. Hardware and model size also affect what it can do. The October 26 launch discussion includes both enthusiasm for easier setup and reports of usability and model-storage problems.

Available for Mac, Windows and Linux, under the MIT licence. I inspected the documentation and supplied screenshot; I did not install or benchmark it.
