NESformer puts a Nintendo CPU inside model weights, without training github.com

A compiler can turn a Nintendo CPU into model weights. That is different from training an AI to guess what a game should look like.

Drew Breunig’s NESformer builds on Divyansh Agrawal’s Qwenputer. The CPU, working memory and cartridge program live inside a Qwen3.5-compatible checkpoint; a host program handles graphics and controllers. Breunig says Claude Opus 5.5 built the implementation using existing emulator references and conformance tests.

The repository reports exact trace/frame matches on bundled tests, not independent validation. It runs roughly 150–290 times slower than a console, supports only NROM cartridges and has no sound. This is a computing experiment, rather than a practical emulator.
